Pivot Charter School Career Day Inspires Students Through Real-World Stories

Pivot Charter School recently hosted an engaging and impactful Career Day, welcoming professionals from across our community to speak with students about career pathways, workforce skills, and future opportunities. The event was designed to strengthen college and career readiness while helping Pivot Charter School students see the connection between their education and their long-term goals.
Throughout the day, Pivot Charter School students heard firsthand experiences from leaders in the military, healthcare, skilled trades, athletics, business, and entrepreneurship.
Anthony Jones shared insights about serving in the United States Air Force, speaking with Pivot Charter School students about discipline, commitment, and the many career paths available through military service. His message emphasized leadership, structure, and the importance of personal responsibility.
Andrew Laing introduced students to the skilled trade of elevator construction, explaining the technical training, certifications, and problem-solving skills required in his field. Pivot Charter School students learned about high-demand trade careers and the strong earning potential available outside of traditional four-year college pathways.
Joanne Berrios from Paul Mitchell School of Tampa highlighted opportunities in cosmetology and the beauty industry. She spoke about creativity, entrepreneurship, and the hands-on training programs that can lead to successful careers in salon ownership and professional styling.
Cayenne Coulon, owner of Cool Kidz Snowballs, inspired Pivot Charter School students with her entrepreneurial journey. She shared what it takes to start and manage a small business, including marketing, customer service, and financial planning.
Healthcare was represented by Bonique Cole, a registered nurse, who discussed the dedication and compassion required in the medical field. She encouraged Pivot Charter School students to consider careers in healthcare and explained the educational pathways that lead to nursing and other medical professions.
Tony Smith, a retired law enforcement officer, spoke candidly about public service, community safety, and the responsibility that comes with wearing a badge. His message reinforced the value of integrity and accountability.
Mike Wylie, a strength and conditioning coach, shared how his passion for fitness turned into a profession. Pivot Charter School students learned about careers in sports performance, health sciences, and athletic training.
Darnel Butle, a media business owner, discussed entrepreneurship in the digital age. He explained how creativity, branding, and technology intersect in today’s media landscape, offering Pivot Charter School students a glimpse into modern business ownership.
Jason Pelfry introduced students to careers in insurance and financial services, helping them understand risk management, customer relationships, and the importance of financial literacy.
Allen Goodman, a student success coach at Giunta Middle School, spoke about careers in education and mentoring. He emphasized the impact educators and support staff can have on students’ lives.
Finally, former NFL player Paul Spicer shared his journey from athletics to life after professional sports. His story resonated deeply with Pivot Charter School students as he discussed perseverance, hard work, and planning for long-term success beyond a single career.
